Living holistically is a journey. Here’s mine…
Healthy living has always been of significant importance to me, but shortly after my daughter was born, 13 years ago, I remember reading an article depicting how our precious food sources are being controlled and contaminated by entities that have no true regard for our health and the detrimental effects that these practices are having on America in particular, especially in the rise of chronic illness. That was the catalyst for creating meaningful change in our household and was then followed by a deep dive (and overhaul) of household and skincare products that we were using.
Fast forward a few years and I suffered mold toxicity only a short time after living in a new construction home. It was a huge trial for my family to navigate - figuring out the unknowns (the hard way). We eventually collected ourselves and took it as a “one off,” eventually purchasing another new construction home. Unfortunately a different set of issues presented mainly from building defects and lack of implementation of systems that were needed to support the health of our home because they weren’t required by codes. I began to notice a trend and a pattern — that current building practices do not align with the needs of humans and that today’s building standards are contributing to toxic boxes instead of creating safe places to live. That was when The Holistic Realtor was born. Heather later attended the Building Biology Institute to become further educated in Building Biology principles and completed certifications after 200 hours of coursework.
